Three states carried out executions on the same day, matching a rare triple-state timeline last seen in 2010, PBS reported. Florida administered a record-tying 19th execution of the year, while Indiana and Alabama each executed an inmate on November 5, 2026.
Inmate Receives Lethal Injection for 1991 Homicides
In Alabama, 54-year-old Michael Shannon Taylor received a lethal injection at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. local time.
Taylor was convicted for a 1991 double homicide in Gadsden. At age 19, he beat 83-year-old Ivan Moore and 79-year-old Lucille Moore to death with a metal bar during a home robbery.
Drapes opened at 5:47 p.m. to reveal Taylor strapped to the gurney. When asked for final words, Taylor replied, “No, sir,” while looking toward his attorneys and his spiritual advisor and mouthing what appeared to be “thank you.” Taylor.”

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey declined requests from death penalty opponents to reduce Taylor’s sentence to life in prison. Following the execution, Ivey released a statement calling Taylor’s actions “reprehensible.” His actions were reprehensible and despite his attempts to evade the consequences, he is facing the Good Lord for final judgement tonight,
Ivey stated.
The execution took place after a judge declared Alabama’s nitrogen gas method unconstitutional, forcing a last-minute switch back to lethal injection. Taylor’s attorneys had objected to the change.
Concurrent Executions in Florida and Indiana
Hours prior to the Alabama execution, Indiana carried out the lethal injection of 50-year-old Jeffrey Weisheit at the state prison in Michigan City. Weisheit was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. for the 2010 killings of his girlfriend’s two children in a house fire near Evansville. Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said the execution provided long-awaited justice for Alyssa Lynch and her brother Caleb, two innocent children whose lives were stolen in an act of unspeakable cruelty.
In Florida, 64-year-old Jesse Guardado was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. at a state prison in Starke. Guardado pleaded guilty to the 2004 fatal stabbing of 75-year-old Jackie Malone inside her Walton County home. Florida’s outgoing governor, Ron DeSantis, signed the death warrants contributing to the state’s aggressive capital punishment tally.
Shifting State Landscapes
The simultaneous executions occurred on the same day California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced plans to commute all 548 of his state’s death sentences, saying he believes state-sanctioned killing is incompatible with California’s values.
Capital punishment continues to divide the United States, with roughly half of all states banning the practice outright while a small group of states carry out the majority of active executions.
