Driver’s license in Florida: what are the current fees for applying or renewing it

In the state of Florida, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) requires the payment of a fee for all procedures related to the driver’s license, including first time application o to document renewal, after its validity period expires. The FLHSMV rates are not usually the same for all procedures, but when they are for first applications and renewals. However, there may be additional charges.

In some cases, drivers can waive certain payments because they meet some fare waiver eligibility trait, such as being of advanced age. The rates may also be affected by the payment method that the client chooses, that is, the amount may be higher if the payment commissions for electronic transactions made with a certain bank are considered.

In the state of Florida, driver’s license related fee payments can be made directly at FLHSMV offices —if the applicant decides to do the process in person— or using a tool provided by this state agency on its website (if the process can be done online). Whatever the case, it is common for the FLHSMV to require electronic payments (debit or credit cards, especially if the process is online) or, failing that, direct transfers using a bank account. Normally, cash payments are not allowed in these types of agencies.
