Drunken Ibiza Tattoo Story Revealed by Golfer Charley Hull

Charley Hull, one of the standout figures on the LPGA Tour, recently shared a wild origin story regarding her first-ever tattoo during an interview with Golfweek’s Adam Schupak. The three-time tour winner revealed how a drunken night out in Ibiza at age 17 nearly ended with permanent ink across her forehead.

The Ibiza Night That Almost Left a Permanent Mark

Hull opened up about the unconventional path to getting her initial body art. At just 17 years old, the future professional golfer was partying in Ibiza with her best friend, James. On the walk back from a club, Hull convinced herself that getting a phrase tattooed directly across her forehead was an optimal decision.

The chosen phrase derived from an inside joke between the two friends: “Hold tight, hold tight.” Fortunately, James intervened. James flatly refused to let Hull follow through with the forehead placement.

“He wouldn’t let me get it on my forehead. Instead, I got it on my foot, and it says, ‘Hold tight.’ He got a matching one on his arm,” Hull explained to Schupak.

Waking Up to Plastic Wrap

The memory of the actual procedure was entirely erased by alcohol consumption. Hull shared that she woke up the next morning with a severe hangover and a confusing medical accessory.

Hull recalled walking back to the hotel room and asking James if she had really been that intoxicated. She remembered walking with a plastic bag on her foot. James subsequently informed her that the plastic was covering the fresh tattoo wrapping.

“I was like, ‘What? I got a tattoo?’ He said, ‘Yeah, you were trying to get it on your forehead and we had to stop you there,'” Hull recounted.

A Mixed Bag of Subsequent Ink

The foot tattoo was only the beginning of Hull’s experiences in the parlor. She acknowledged to Golfweek that her second piece of body art was far less successful, featuring her ex-husband’s name on her wrist—a decision she has since attempted to reverse through removal treatments.

Her third tattoo fared much better. Hull shares a matching lightning bolt tattoo with fellow English professional golfer Georgia Hall. The design sits on Hull’s right pinky finger to commemorate their habitual pinky promises.
