E3 2022: very bad news for the event which was to be held online!

News event E3 2022: very bad news for the event which was to be held online!

Since the pandemic, the traditional video game meetings have been strongly impacted, whether it’s E3, gamescom or even Paris Games Week. However, the organizers opted for another strategy, namely to develop an online event. Until then, the major video game meetings had been able to continue, but 2022 will be a milestone: E3 will simply not take place.

Summary

  • A badly embarked 2022 edition
  • No E3 this year, like in 2020

A badly embarked 2022 edition

It’s been a few months since we told you the story of a year that was going to be complicated for the high mass of video games in Los Angeles.. Just last January, the institution that is E3 seemed wavering when it was announced that it would once again hold an all-digital event. In the end, and according to rumors, the internal situation seemed even more worrying, even mentioning an outright cancellation of the 2022 edition due to the competition generated by the other events of this period.

In the end, the rumors sounded more alarmist than anything else. A few weeks ago, some reputable insiders in the industry said they had received a press release from the ESRB (the American classification body) indicating that E3 would indeed take place in 100% digital. But, contrary to the recent announcement from gamescom which will take place remotely but also in physics for its 2022 edition, none of this will take place: there will be neither E3 in physics, nor E3 remotely!

No E3 this year, like in 2020

During the evening, the video game planet shook: as in 2020, there will be no E3. This second historic cancellation of one of the iconic events in the world of video games was reported by Razer’s public relations manager, Will Powers. The latter said he had received an email from ESA announcing the complete cancellation of the 2022 edition of the event, including the online version.

This decision on the part of the organizer falls like a cleaver, while the holding of a digital event had been mentioned many times behind the scenes. Since then, reactions from personalities in the field have multiplied, in particular Geoff Keighleythe producer of many shows such as the Summer Game Fest (on the sidelines of E3) and the Opening Night Live (on the sidelines of gamescom), he who now has a clear field for his event.

However, to reassure gamers around the world, E3 is definitely not dead and buried as ESA plans to return next year. The 2023 edition could then come back stronger than ever, and perhaps even with a new formula that will restore its acclaim.. At least, that’s what we hope!
