Early Development of Alzheimer’s Disease: Accelerated Hippocampus Contraction and Other Disease Symptoms

This symptom is also observed in a number of other diseases

Scientists at the University of California have found a symptom that may indicate the early development of Alzheimer’s disease. This is reported by the journal Neurology.

Experts noted that the disease may be indicated by an accelerated contraction of the hippocampus, which is responsible in the brain for memory, emotions and spatial orientation.

The volume of the hippocampus decreases with age, but, as the scientists added, in some diseases this happens faster.

This effect is observed not only in Alzheimer’s disease, but also in Cushing’s disease and depression.
