The president of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, indicated on Saturday that “an extraordinary summit on Mali will be held on Sunday January 9, 2022 in Accra, Republic of Ghana ”, adding that the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs had also invited the mediator to go to Bamako on Wednesday January 5, 2022.

In addition, the ECOWAS Commission announced in a press release that it “took note” of the communication from the Malian transition authorities of a draft timetable on future elections, transmitted on Friday by a Malian delegation led. by Abdoulaye Diop Minister of Foreign Affairs to Nana Akufo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana and current President of ECOWAS.

“The ECOWAS Commission takes note of the communication on December 31, 2021 of a draft timetable for the elections, sent on Friday by a Malian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to His Excellency Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana and current president of ECOWAS ”, declared Saturday, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou president of the commission of the West African organization in a press release.

Abdoulaye Diop explained on Saturday on Mali’s national television that he had presented Nana Akufo Addo with a five-year extension of the transition, at most, from January 1, 2022, in order to achieve the best election conditions. free, transparent, credible and acceptable to all.

“This approach is part of the respect that President Assimi Goïta has for the organization and for all the other member states, but also to be able to demonstrate his good faith and his openness to dialogue and consultation in order to be able to find solutions ”, declared the Malian diplomat.

And to add that Colonel Assimi Goïta “wanted the voice of Malians to be heard and we have faithfully brought results in relation to the national meetings of the refoundation and in relation to the duration of the transition to ensure that this is the basis of a dialogue with ECOWAS ”.
