The pharmaceutical market in Egypt suffers from the presence of more than one price for one drug in many pharmaceutical classes, as a result of the increase in the prices of a number of them at close intervals, which represented a crisis for many pharmacists who find in many classes about 3 prices per class within the pharmacy.
In turn, an informed source in the pharmaceutical sector revealed to Masrawy that the Pharmacists Syndicate presented this crisis to Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawi, head of the Egyptian Pharmaceutical Authority, who in turn confirmed that there is difficulty in unifying the drug exchange price for those types at the present time.
The source added: “Indeed, there is a difficulty because many of the packages have prices printed on them, and there will be a violation if a pharmacy sells the medicine at a price higher than what is written on the package.”
But there is another method that the Egyptian Medicines Authority is working on implementing by expanding the application of the “Track and Trace” system, which is the drug tracking governance system to control markets, which will include a new procedure represented by printing a “Qr code” on the package that includes its price according to the latest update by the Authority. The medicine, according to the source.
He said: “The code will be present on the packaging, and therefore it will be sold at the latest price approved by the Drug Authority. This code also allows the citizen to know the price.”
He pointed out that this system is expected to be implemented before the end of this year.
