Egypt has deployed three tugs to tow an oil tanker with engine trouble in the Suez Canal. That tanker is blocking traffic in the shortest shipping route between Asia and Europe.

The oil tanker named Seavigour, which sails under the Maltese flag, was on its way from Russia to China, the authority that oversees shipping in the Suez Canal reports. It is more common for traffic to be disrupted due to technical failures. These interruptions are usually short-lived.

Less than two weeks ago, for example, tugboats managed to move a ship that had been stuck for several hours. If the three tugboats manage to remove the vessel, traffic to the north could resume, said Osama Rabie, chairman of Suez Canal Authority.
