A very prominent actress during the 1980s and 1990s, Emmanuelle Béart was notably able to film with none other than Tom Cruise in the very first “Mission Impossible”. So what did she think of the American superstar, known for his demands and, sometimes, his extravagance? The Frenchwoman responded honestly.
Revealed in 1986 in “Manon des sources”, Emmanuelle Béart then established herself as a leading actress in the 1990s. And among her most emblematic roles, we necessarily remember her performance as Claire Phelps in “Mission Impossible”, first of the name. A huge hit, which propelled her to the rank of star beyond French borders.
Obviously, the star of this feature film directed by Brian De Palma was none other than Tom Cruise. An atypical personality in Hollywood, the eternal Pete Mitchell aka Maverick in “Top Gun” is renowned for his extraordinary demands on himself, but also on his collaborators. On the other hand, when he is satisfied, Cruise knows how to be generous. In short, he is rather popular in the community.

It is therefore no surprise that Emmanuelle Béart appreciated this experience alongside the sacred monster of US cinema. In “50mn Inside”, she first remembered the muscular casting:
I was told to pin Tom Cruise against the wall and put a gun to his head. And since I have good energy, let’s say, I said to myself: “Okay, I’ll do it”. And so I caught him, but I don’t think he expected it. He said to himself: “A little French girl…”, and I was hired immediately.

Once the adventure launched, Daniel Auteuil’s former companion was not disappointed at all by the star on a daily basis. And even today, she retains great esteem for him:
I found him quite fascinating as an actor, extremely professional and generous. I would like to see him again, he is a good person.
In any case, although her American career has not necessarily lasted, Emmanuelle Béart remains happy and grateful for this experience which fell upon her somewhat by chance. And, regretting nothing, she savored every second of it, as she confided to TF1:
This is my American adventure. It’s a game for me, I’m someone who is more into auteur cinema in France, and, suddenly, I’m offered this completely crazy thing.
Tom Cruise confirms his good reputation with these words from Emmanuelle Béart, under the charm of the man and the professional. In any case, it is no coincidence that the Syracuse native has excelled at the highest level for many years. And like the last “Top Gun” and the last “Mission Impossible”, it is clear that he still has a lot under his belt!
