Animal Crossing: New Horizons has helped make the franchise one of Nintendo’s most popular IPs, and all eyes are on what the series does next. While nothing has been announced, another Animal Crossing game is likely in development. The studio has built a very strong foundation with new horizons, and the next chapter can take it to a whole new level. There are dozens of exciting mechanics Nintendo could add to the mix, but the unique Grand Theft Auto 5 mechanic feels like a must-have. Both mechanics help add to the world tremendously and would likely fit right into the world of Animal Crossing. To build the perfect home, players must purchase a variety of items to furnish it. One such thing is television, which is nothing more than a simple bandage. They can set up different TVs in their home, turn on the screen, and see a blurry picture appear on it. There might be some faint chatter coming from the object, but nothing else to interact with. Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online also have TVs, but they are much more advanced. Players can turn on the TV, sit on the couch, and then watch a show. They can switch between channels, turn up or down the volume, and enjoy one of the many parodies Rockstar has created. They can also get up from the couch and leave the TV running in the background. The show will continue, and players can do whatever they want while playing. Next Animal Crossing should adopt a similar mechanism for its television set. Players should be able to sit back and watch a show inside the Animal Crossing world. These could be simple advertisements for Animal Crossing’s Capable Sisters, a Succession-like show starring Tom Nook, a historical documentary narrated by the Blathers, a series of music videos from KK Slider, and even a how-to video series with Isabelle. All of these can be cute and funny little videos that will help give the Animal Crossing world a little more life and serve as a fun time killer while players wait for stores to open or plants to grow. Grand Theft Auto can inspire more Animal Crossing with its many radio stations. Players can turn on the radio every time GTA and listen to all kinds of radio programs and music while they are walking around the street. Animal Crossing players can also buy radios, but they really don’t do much. Players should be able to listen to a radio station led by Resetti while they work around the house. This will help give these items a lot more purpose and will just be a joy to listen to. Adding TV channels and radio stations to Animal Crossing seems like a recipe for success. There’s a lot of potential for some hilarious moments, and fans would love to be able to see more of these iconic characters. While Nintendo should focus on making the next Animal Crossing as fun as New Horizons, it should also consider devoting some resources to this funny little side project. Even if it is in the form of a DLC pack or seasonal update, it would still be a great treat for fans of the franchise. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on Switch.
