According to police spokeswoman Barbara Gass, the officers wanted to stop the 20-year-old in Bunsengasse shortly before 7:30 p.m. during a special patrol.
But the young man had other things in mind and drove away on the scooter. In Voltagasse he got on his feet and continued running, followed by the officers on foot.
During the pursuit, a police officer fired a blank shot into the ground, whereupon the 20-year-old gave up a short time later. The uniformed officers suspected that drug addiction was the reason for his escape and wanted to bring him before the medical officer. “He admitted that he had smoked a joint. But he refused to be examined by the medical officer,” said Gass.
Penalty payment and procedure
The scooter driver faces several administrative charges for his refusal and violations. A summary judge imposed fines of 1,900 euros at the scene of the incident. Refusal to examine results in separate administrative criminal proceedings.
