“The most important thing in politics is when you can objectively discuss substantive issues. That’s what I expect,” said Plakolm, answering a journalist’s question in Brussels on Monday as to whether she saw “features of a certain hostility to youth” in the Schilling case. But she didn’t name Schilling directly. “What has not been lost in my opinion is personal backgrounds, which in reality are only reduced to one gender or one age,” Plakolm continued. When asked about advice for Schilling, the Youth State Secretary said it was difficult when one was personally attacked in such times (election campaign; note). “The most important thing is that you always focus on the content and keep fighting for what you want to implement.” But her supporters would have to decide whether Schilling was still credible.
