Orbán in Morocco

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is not only criticizing the migration pact that has just been passed by the European Parliament, he is even receiving support from Brussels, from EU Council President Charles Michel.

Viktor Orbán spent three days in Morocco until Saturday, where he took part in a leadership meeting of the Christian Democratic International (IDC-CDI) in Marrakech and held several bilateral discussions with Moroccan government representatives. When assessing the political situation in today’s EU, the Hungarian Prime Minister did not shy away from criticizing the EU institutions, which had failed, from the so-called “Green Deal” to migration policy and the war in Ukraine. While the Community undermines Europe’s competitiveness, the USA and China are pulling away.

NATO is shifting its priorities

With its economic policy decisions, which are directed against farmers and the automobile industry, among other things, the EU Commission is destroying livelihoods and slowing down economic growth. In the Ukraine war, he defined Hungary as the only country in the EU-27 that was in favor of a ceasefire and peace negotiations. Regarding the recently noticeable shift in NATO priorities, Orbán made it clear that Hungary would not take part in the planning and coordination of arms deliveries and financial aid to Ukraine, which the defense alliance wants to initiate.

Surprising support

According to the Prime Minister, with the new migration pact, Brussels wants to impose its immigration-friendly policy on the member states – even though unanimity was previously required on this matter. Orbán pointed out that Hungary and Poland will not enforce this “harmful and dangerous” pact. Somewhat surprisingly, he received support for this position from EU Council President Charles Michel.

He told Polish media that the Prime Ministers of Poland and Hungary, Donald Tusk and Viktor Orbán, were right on the question of the redistribution mechanism. Michel admitted that the migration pact was an extremely difficult issue. “The two prime ministers are absolutely right, but we see that they (third countries) are abusing illegal migrants as an instrument and weapon against the community.” He then called for European solidarity for Poland, which he described as a “forced state,” “the certain one “Want to destabilize states and figures.”
