At the meeting of the Political Secretariat – in which explanations were requested from Alekos Flambouraris, Olga Gerovasilis and Dionysis Tebonera for the statements of Petros Pappas against the student protests – it was confirmed that five to seven places on the European ballot will be occupied by candidates chosen by Stefanos Kasselakis, which means that the members of SYRIZA who will be invited to go to the polls, will choose 35 candidates.
However, it is noted that in order to be included in the list that will be put at the discretion of the members, they must declare that their criminal record is clean, that they are not members of another party, and also choose the electoral district in which they wish to run for election, as each candidate can go down in only one of the 13 regions of the country.
The final list will also take into account both the 50% quota for women candidates and the population of each district to distribute the nominations.
Naturally, Kostas Arvanitis and Elena Kountoura, the two active SYRIZA MEPs, are excluded from the preliminary election process.
In order to participate in the internal party elections, those interested should immediately respond to the letter they will receive, while in the primary elections, in addition to the members, friends of the party will also vote, whenever a Register of friends of the party is created, according to the Statute.
As for the voting, it will be conducted both electronically and by ballot. For e-voting, a special platform will be opened in isyriza and those who want to vote by e-voting will fill out an application whenever their name is removed from the electoral roll at local polling stations to ensure immutability. SYRIZA’s European ballot, like all parties’ European ballots, must be submitted by April 19.
