After a wild end to the race in Talladega and the victory of Kyle Busch, the Monster Mile from Dover awaits the stables this weekend. This one-mile concrete track located in Dover, Delaware opened as Dover Downs International Speedway and has hosted 104 races in the NASCAR Premier Division.
Richard Petty won the first race on the oval of Dover on July 6, 1969. It was this same Richard Petty who won the second event on this same track, the following year.
In the last ten years only three teams have won races at Dover Motor Speedway, Hendrick Motorsports (nine wins), Joe Gibbs Racing (five wins) and Stewart-Haas Racing (four wins).
Hendrick Motorsports is quite simply the most successful team on the Monster Mile with twenty-two successes, including eleven for Jimmie Johnson alone. Jeff Gordon with five and Chase Elliott with two are the other two multiple winning drivers for Hendrick Motorsports. Geoff Bodine, Ken Schrader, Ricky Rudd and Alex Bowman also have a win at Dover.
