The janitor at Torslev Skole in Østervrå made a boring find on the school grounds on Monday.
He found ingredients for so-called bottle bombs – tinfoil, hydrochloric acid, empty bottles and drain cleaner on the school grounds.
Headmaster Mads Vejen says so.
– We found the ingredients this morning, and went inside and googled it. Then we found out that it was probably something about these bottle/acid bombs. They haven’t been fired, but we take it seriously. That is why we have drawn attention to it via Aula, just as we have briefed the local media.
– We guess that it is some young people who have been doing something, but we have no idea who it is. But we would like everyone – including those without children at the school – to be informed, so we are announcing widely, says the headmaster.
There was thus a meeting in the school board on Monday evening, and both the SSP and the police have been informed.
– Tomorrow morning (Tuesday, ed.) we will go out and inform all classes, and have a talk with the students about what to do if you see or hear about someone playing with something like this, says Mads Vejen .
Bottle bombs typically consist of an ordinary plastic bottle with acidic liquid and metal in it. When the materials come into contact with each other, they can explode.
– A bottle bomb can be produced in a very short time. In most cases, it will explode within a few minutes, says Jan Steen Jensen, who is a chemist at the National Emergency Management Agency and often advises in the field.
If you find a bottle bomb, you must contact the police.
