The switch to a free-to-play business model seems to have worked for Mediatonic, as their game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout hit 50 million players in just 2 weeks since the switch.

Originally released in 2020, Fall Guys was a hit when it launched on PC and PlayStation. On the downside, the player population quickly declined, and developer Mediatonic wasn’t necessarily equipped to release new content quickly and sustain demand.
Since, the developer has passed under the fold of Epic Games, the publisher of Fortnite, among others. Last week saw Fall Guys release on more platforms, including Xbox and the Nintendo Switch, at the same time as the game changed its business model, going completely free with the option for players to purchase a season pass. and cosmetic items for their characters.
In 48 hours, Mediatonic announced that they had reached 20 million active players, and now in just two weeks, 50 million players.
