Western Digital has introduced a brand new external SSD with the SanDisk Pro G40. This is said to be the manufacturer’s most resilient SSD to date. After all, the SSD should survive falls from a height of up to three meters.

With the SanDisk Pro G40 SSD Western Digital has now introduced the latest member of its own SSD portfolio. In addition, the G40 offers a theoretical drop safety of up to three meters. The case should withstand a pressure of up to 1,800 kilograms.
Furthermore, Western Digital promises a maximum write speed 2.700 MB/s and a reading speed of 1.900 MB/s. An aluminum core is responsible for cooling the memory. This is to ensure stable performance. The external SSD is connected via Thunderbolt 3 or via USB 3.2 Gen 2. Thanks to a dual mode, both standards are covered by one connection. As soon as a device supports Thunderbolt, this interface is used preferentially.
The SanDisk Pro G40 is available now at a price of 470,99 Euro available. Buyers can choose between a 1 terabyte and a 2 terabyte model. For the larger version, Western Digital demands proud 740 Euro. So far, the G40 is only in the WD-Store available. However, other retailers are likely to follow in the next few days. In Germany, Western Digital offers a limited five-year warranty on the external SSD.
