“At the core of the FBI’s violent crime strategy are the partnerships we maintain with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. By leveraging these relationships, we made significant progress on reducing violent crime in North Texas,” said FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock.
That coordinated regional push yielded 186 arrests across North Texas during a four-month federal crackdown dubbed Operation Summer Heat 2.0, fox4news.com reported. The initiative, which ran from June 1 to September 20, targeted violent criminals, fugitives, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations operating across the region.
Weapons, Narcotics, and Child Rescue Totals in North Texas
The regional sweep went far beyond simple apprehension tallies.
Law enforcement officials recovered 121 illegal firearms alongside 1.2 kilograms of fentanyl and 33 kilograms of cocaine. In the courtroom, those arrests translated into 169 indictments against violent crime suspects and 71 secured convictions, fbi.gov noted.
Special agents and intelligence professionals also focused heavily on crimes against children. The operation resulted in 49 child victims being identified, located, or recovered throughout the North Texas sector.
National Scale and Year-Over-Year Growth From 2025
The local effort mirrored a massive nationwide offensive. Across the United States, Operation Summer Heat 2.0 generated 8,927 arrests and recovered 5,013 illegally possessed weapons.

Federal authorities also seized staggering quantities of drugs nationally, confiscating 27,512 kilograms of cocaine and 687 kilograms of fentanyl—an amount calculated by officials to equal 52 million lethal doses. Nationally, investigators located or identified 1,410 child victims.
First launched for a three-month run in the summer of 2025, the multi-pronged initiative expanded its footprint significantly this year. The 2026 results marked a 120% increase in illegal weapons recovered, a 63% increase in fentanyl seized, and a 34% increase in children identified or located compared to the previous year’s baseline.
The announcement of the operation’s results follows closely behind historical drops in crime across the United States detailed in the 2025 UCR Summary of Reported Crimes in the Nation.
