FC Twente Uses Ajax Qarabag Knowledge for Conference League

FC Twente is using institutional knowledge from Dutch rivals Ajax and FC Utrecht to manage the logistical complexities of their Conference League campaign. As the Tukkers prepare for their upcoming fixture against SC Freiburg on November 26, the club is utilizing contact with other clubs to optimize travel and safety protocols.

Institutional Knowledge Sharing in European Competition

Returning to European competition for the first time in a year, FC Twente has had to rapidly scale its administrative operations. The club, which currently sits in the Conference League following a 1-4 victory over Qarabag FK in late August, has turned to peers to bypass the steep learning curve of international logistics. Team manager Bart Bruins reached out to Ajax to gather intelligence on the Azeri club, as the Amsterdam side had made multiple visits there in a relatively short period.

“We didn’t really have the time for a pre-inspection, so we piggybacked on Ajax’s experiences,” Bruins stated in the podcast Sinds 1965. The collaboration covers everything from selecting optimal training pitches to logistical advice from travel agents. While the clubs remain competitive on the pitch, the professional courtesy extends to sharing “do’s and don’ts” for unfamiliar environments.

Twente Consults Utrecht for Freiburg Travel Strategies

Thomas Lentelink, manager of Safety at FC Twente, has actively sought counsel from FC Utrecht regarding their previous Europa League encounters with SC Freiburg. The club has asked Utrecht for the relevant “do’s and don’ts” and best practices.

Fixture Competition Result/Status
FC Thun Conference League 1-0 (Win)
Lincoln Red Imps Conference League 1-4
Qarabag FK Conference League 1-4 (Win)

Bruins emphasized that these details are not trivial. The club conducts rigorous pre-inspections whenever possible, focusing on the quality of accommodation. “You pay attention to the small details. What does the bathroom look like, for example? We bring our own pillows because the ones provided are often not up to standard,” Bruins explained.

Ajax and Utrecht Share European Match Insights

By tapping into the experience of Ajax and Utrecht, Twente is drawing on their “on-the-ground” knowledge for the UEFA Conference League.

As the club looks toward the November 26 match in Germany, the focus remains on the upcoming European fixture. The ability to bridge the gap between “enemies on the pitch” and “partners in logistics” reflects the professional courtesy described by the club.
