[8日 ロイター] – NAGE, the federal workers’ union, filed a lawsuit in Boston federal court on Wednesday, claiming that a $31.4 trillion federal debt ceiling is unconstitutional.

He argued that the 1917 statutory ceiling violated the separation of powers in the U.S. Constitution by forcing the president to cut spending already approved by Congress in the event of a default. He called for the repeal of the law.

The lawsuit named President Biden and Treasury Secretary Yellen as defendants. A Treasury Department spokeswoman declined to comment. The White House has yet to be reached for comment.

NAGE, which has 75,000 civil servants, said it would be hurt because a default would lead to layoffs.
