Ukraine described a Russian military offensive of “maximum intensity” and an extremely difficult situation in the Donbassin the east of its territory.
“The current offensive of the occupiers in the Donbass could make the region uninhabited”, asserted Volodymyr Zelensky in his televised address on the night of Thursday to Friday, accusing the Russian forces of seeking to “reduce to ashes” several towns in the region.
Supported by a deluge of bombs, the Russian army threatens Severodonetsk, a city of 100,000 inhabitants before the war, which could suffer the same fate as Mariupol, the southeastern port largely destroyed after weeks of siege.
