Five men are standing trial in England for the sexual abuse of a woman who was drugged and bound by her then-husband, in a court case that British broadcasters BBC and SkyNews report is expected to last four weeks, rtl.nl reported.
A Night of Terror and Escape in December 2023
The victim, Joanne Young, told investigators that she woke up on a night in December 2023 feeling sleepy and vague while tied up and blindfolded in her bed.
When she managed to free her wrists, she felt a stranger’s hand grab hers and heard her husband tell someone to hide. Pulling off her blindlock, she saw a man drop to the floor before she fled to the bathroom and locked the door.
Former Husband Admitted to Drugging Victim and Posting Ads
Her former husband, Philip Young, later admitted to police that he had drugged her and that she had been raped by other men. He had posted advertisements on the internet stating that he and his wife enjoyed having other men have sex with her, while she remained entirely unaware.
The Realization of a Trap
During police interviews, the victim initially viewed the incident as a one-time mistake by her husband. The true severity of the situation only became clear after his arrest, when he confessed to sharing intimate images of her online without her consent.

she said, describing her shock and confusion. How can you do something like that and think it is okay?
Court Reviewed Secret Recordings of Victim's Rape and Abuse
The court reviewed secret recordings made by Philip Young showing four other defendants touching and potentially raping the victim. Philip Young has admitted to drugging his wife eleven times and raping her, alongside acknowledging the distribution of more than 500 intimate images online between 2010 and 2024. Wiltshire Police previously documented that he admitted to 48 counts of sexual abuse against his ex-wife. A sixth defendant has already pleaded guilty to raping the victim.
