These civil society associations accuse the arms company wholly owned by the Walloon Region of having continued to export arms to Saudi Arabia on the basis of licenses which have been invalidated by the Council of State, indicated the CNAPD to the Belga agency.
This complaint, with constitution of civil part, was deposited in the hands of an examining magistrate in Liège.
According to Amnesty International Belgium, the FN Herstal exported weapons to Saudi Arabia on the basis of licenses which were “withdrawn by the Walloon Region” or “cancelled by the Council of State”.
This lawsuit targets the FN Herstal on the grounds that it continues to sell weapons to states likely to use them to commit serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, according to Amnesty. “The FN Herstal (…) took the risk of becoming complicit in the war crimes committed by the coalition led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen”, indicates the annual report of the NGO, published last month.
