Foibe, Meloni: watershed law, has broken the silence conspiracy

«Today we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of law no. 92 of 30 March 2004, which established the Day of Remembrance of the martyrs of the Foibe and of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus. A watershed law, which made it possible to write pages of history that had never been written and which broke that conspiracy of silence which, for decades, shrouded the tragedy of the foibe and the drama of the exodus in oblivion and indifference «. Thus the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a statement on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of law 92/2004.

«Remembrance of the tragedy, everyone’s heritage»

«Thanks to this law, which Parliament has recently further strengthened and implemented – explained Meloni – the memory of that tragedy has become everyone’s heritage and has made any denialist or justificationist attempt futile. Today is a national anniversary that the Government has honored with various initiatives.

Actions

Two particularly important, according to the prime minister. «The approval in the Council of Ministers of the bill for the establishment of the National Museum of Remembrance in Rome and the “Train of Remembrance”, a historic train similar to the one that accompanied the exiles to the various refugee camps in Italy after the war and which last February 10th to 27th traveled from North to South, obtaining a great response from the public and exceeding fifteen thousand visitors in its thirteen stages, from Trieste to Taranto. The journey of remembrance continues – concludes Meloni – so that the memory of what happened never fades and is perpetuated over time”.
