Chennai: Three students have been admitted to a hospital in Thanjavur for food poisoning following consuming shawarma. Govt. Food poisoning was reported in students of the Veterinary College. Authorities said the health condition of the three was satisfactory.

Three students Praveen from Kanyakumari, Parimaleswaran from Pudukotta and Manikandan from Dharmapuri ate chicken shawarma from a nearby fast food center. After the meal, the students returned to the hostel. But within minutes the students had health problems, including vomiting. The college authorities were immediately informed and the government rushed him to the hospital.

Orathanadu police registered a case in the incident. On Thursday, a food security team raided several shops in Madurai and seized 10 kg of stale chicken from five shops. The investigation team sought an explanation from the restaurant for possession of stale meat. Following the incident in which a student died following eating shawarma in Kerala, inspections were intensified in Tamil Nadu and other hotels.
