Katharina Wilhelm, born in Mainz in 1983, studied theatre, film and media studies and German in Frankfurt am Main. The first jobs as a reporter were with the “Frankfurter Neue Presse”, after which she discovered her love for radio and television and the Internet.
During her internship at Hessian radio she worked as an editor and reporter on radio for the departments of politics, Hesse and the environment. Explaining complex relationships in an understandable way is, for Katharina Wilhelm, the high art of journalism. She didn’t just learn that from hr – but also as a television author for the “ZDF” children’s news program “logo!”. She was awarded first prize by the Axel Springer Academy for the web project “The Woman Riddle – Secrets in Botticelli’s Pictures”.
There is also a need for explanation in their new reporting area, the west coast of the USA. That ARD-Studio Los Angeles takes care of all the topics that are relevant for Germany from Alaska to California. This includes, among other things, the special role of California, because the most populous US state often sees itself as an opponent of Washington’s politics. In Silicon Valley, large companies and small start-ups are tinkering with our digital future, in the northernmost state of Alaska, the very real effects of climate change can be seen, and in Hollywood, social problems such as sexism and discrimination are not only being renegotiated on film but also off the sets .
From 2011, Katharina Wilhelm worked regularly as a substitute in the ARD-Studio Los Angelessince August 2019 as studio manager.
