The American Association of Boxing Writers named Dmitry Bivol the best athlete of the year for victories over Saul Alvarez and Gilberto Ramirez. Previously, the Russians did not receive this award.

World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol has been named Boxing Writers of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). About it reported on the BWA website.
Bivol became the first Russian to receive the award in 84 years of its existence.
“After it victories unanimous decision over future Hall of Famer Canelo Alvarez in May and victories over Gilberto Ramirez in November, the BWAA voted Dmitry Bivol as the best boxer of 2022,” the message says.
Bivol stated that he was “interested in who received this award when he was a child, and now joined their number.”
“I am very proud of this and I am very proud of my team. I have the best team in boxing – my manager and my coach. I did not expect this, but after the victory over Ramirez, I thought that I had a great year, ” quotes athlete site of the promotional company “World of Boxing”.
The BWAA was formed in 1926 as the Boxing Writers’ Association of Greater New York.
Last year, the award for the best boxer, which bears the name of Sugar Ray Robinson, was awarded to Alvarez for the second time in his career.
Bivol defended the title twice in 2022. In total, he has 21 wins in 21 fights in the professional ring.
