Former director of the PDI testifies before the Prosecutor’s Office for alleged corruption – La Discusión 2024-04-07 10:53:35

At 4:00 p.m. this Monday, the former director of the Investigative Police (PDI), Sergio Muñoz, will testify before the Eastern Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office in the framework of the investigation once morest him for the delivery of reserved information to the lawyer Luis Hermosilla.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the former director will be formalized in the 4th Guarantee Court of Santiago for violation of secrecy in the framework of various judicial cases. The event is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.

Muñoz hired the lawyer Juan Carlos Manríquez and together they defined a strategy of total collaboration in the case, especially in the face of the possibility that the Prosecutor’s Office and the State Defense Council (CDE) would request harsh precautionary measures.

“I asked the team of prosecutors in charge of the investigation to take a voluntary statement from my client, which will be made today. Our position is to collaborate in the prompt clarification of the facts,” said Manríquez.

Last Friday, Carabineros personnel raided Muñoz’s house and office as part of the investigation into alleged payment of bribes to officials of the Internal Revenue Service (SII) and the Financial Market Commission to obtain privileged information in favor of the businessman Daniel Sauer.

A report published yesterday by the Journalistic Research Center (Ciper), based on data provided by the Eastern Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office, indicated that Muñoz had begun to leak information to Hermosilla just 13 days following assuming his position as top head of the PDI.

This leak included sensitive data on at least five court cases. Lawyer Hermosilla received the information before the police executed the requirements of the Public Ministry.

Among the leaked documents were information requests, details of judicial investigations, and specific requests to financial entities such as BancoEstado. These data were sent by Muñoz to Hermosilla, who represented defendants in the investigated cases.
