Former leader Lee Nak-yeon, who left the Democratic Party of Korea and is currently founding a new third party, New Future, said on the 27th, “The Democratic Party has lost the spirit and values of the Democratic Party and has become a photo studio that only has photos of former Presidents Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in.” Even though there are pictures of past Democratic presidents hanging in the conference room of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myeong’s office, the Democratic Party is not putting its spirit into practice properly.

At the Gwangju City Party founding ceremony held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in the western part of Gwangju on this day, former representative Lee said, “I am a person who has maintained the Democratic Party for over 20 years without wavering even when the winds of the Uri Party and the People’s Party blow,” and added, “This time as well, I will protect the spirit and values of the Democratic Party.” “I ended up leaving the Democratic Party,” he said.

He said, “Some people ask how a person who served in the Democratic Party and enjoyed five terms as a member of the National Assembly, governor of South Jeolla Province, prime minister, and party leader can leave the party.” “I tell you that I have set out on this path to repay the people for that,” he said.

He said, “It is not the duty of a person who has benefited from the party and the country to say nothing even though he knows that the Democratic Party is going down the wrong path,” and added, “I will do my best to correct the Democratic Party so that it no longer goes down a bad path.”

Regarding the current situation of the Democratic Party, former representative Lee said, “There is no possibility of a regime change in three years,” and “I believe that we must now look for a new alternative, starting from Gwangju.”

He continued, “The people of Gwangju and Jeonnam cannot tolerate the Yoon administration. “I think the opposition party should judge the Yoon administration and regain power three years later,” he said. “I will do my best to fight for Honam and the Republic of Korea.”
