Forza Horizon 6 has officially introduced a dedicated drifting mode called Drift Attack, allowing players to jump straight into score-based challenges from the open world without loading screens or lobbies. According to the sources, the update is set to release alongside the launch of Horizon Playlist Series 5, titled “British Automotive.”
How Drift Attack Integrates into the Open World
Architecturally, Playground Games has designed Drift Attack to mirror the structural implementation of the existing Time Attack mode. Players do not need to navigate complex menu systems or wait in matchmaking queues. Instead, drivers simply steer their vehicles directly through an in-world gantry to trigger the mode instantly.
The action takes place on the established Shimanoyama Circuit. While lapping the track, points accumulate similarly to Horizon Drift and standard Drift Zones. However, Drift Attack introduces an extra algorithmic scoring layer: Clipping Zones. Spread across the circuit within marked boundaries, these zones multiply and boost scores for precise drift execution.
According to the sources, the mode features integrated in-world leaderboards and connects directly to the Horizon Festival campaign. Players unlock Drift Attack upon acquiring the yellow wristband.
Rewards, Autoshow Additions, and the British Automotive Playlist
Grinding through the new Drift Attack Collection Journal tasks unlocks specific cosmetic rewards, including a dedicated racesuit and helmet. More importantly, it grants a brand-new vehicle: the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition. For collectors who prefer stock builds, Playground Games confirmed that the standard version of the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S is now permanently available for purchase inside the in-game Autoshow.
The debut of Drift Attack aligns with the rollout of Horizon Playlist Series 5. Titled “British Automotive,” the series runs from September 10 to October 8, offering ten reward vehicles across four seasonal updates:
- 2019 Ginetta G40 Junior: 20 points during the Summer Season
- 2021 McLaren 620R: 40 points during the Summer Season
- 2015 Jaguar XKR-S GT: 20 points during the Autumn Season
- 2021 MINI John Cooper Works GP: 40 points during the Autumn Season
- 2006 Vauxhall Astra VXR: 20 points during the Winter Season
- 2016 Bentley Bentayga: 40 points during the Winter Season
- 2002 Lotus Esprit V8: 20 points during the Spring Season
- 2023 Lotus Emira: 40 points during the Spring Season
- 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed: 80 points total across the ‘British Automotive’ series
- 2019 Aston Martin Valhalla Concept Car: 160 points total across the ‘British Automotive’ series
Looking Ahead to Horizon Meets and Collaborative Content
Playground Games has already mapped out the subsequent update cycle. The next series will carry the designation “Horizon Meets.” This upcoming content drop will introduce a temporary 7-Eleven Konbini evolving world feature, alongside expanded EventLab tools and additional vehicles making their franchise debut.
For players attending physical events, the sources note that the Xbox booth at gamescom provides early hands-on access to Drift Attack alongside a vehicle wrapped in a 7-Eleven livery. Meanwhile, the LEGO® booth features LEGO® Technic™ vehicles for attendees to inspect.
