FPÖ sees government failed in the fight against inflation

The FPÖ sees the federal government as a failure in the fight against inflation. Secretary General Christian Hafenecker and Vice Club President Dagmar Belakowitsch therefore called for the resignation of the turquoise-green government on Tuesday in the run-up to the plenary week. There was a clear rejection from Blau for the departure from the unanimity principle in the EU desired by the NEOS on foreign and security policy issues, which the Pinks want to address in Parliament.

The FPÖ will bring inflation and Russia sanctions to the table on Wednesday in the National Council in the “current hour” (title “Price freeze – tax freeze – sanctions freeze! When will the government finally take real measures against the cost avalanche?”). In a press conference on Tuesday, Hafenecker pointed out that the eleventh package of sanctions against Russia is currently being negotiated at EU level. One has to ask oneself how successful these sanctions packages actually are, because Russia still has an export plus in the energy sector, he said.

At the same time, “there is still no end of the war in sight, the unnecessary deaths on both sides continue” and there is “not the slightest trace of a negotiation in the room”. Looking at the inflation rate in April (9.7 percent), one can see “how the sanctions are working, namely primarily against our own population,” said Hafenecker.

On the subject of inflation, Belakovich said that food is nowhere as expensive as in Austria. “We’re not doing particularly well, the citizens feel that in their wallets.” Not a single food has become cheaper as a result of the previous transfer payments. Among other things, she called for a suspension of the MöSt. and a halving of sales tax on basic groceries.

An important issue for the FPÖ is the referendum “For unrestricted cash payments”, which 530,938 people have signed and will also be discussed in Parliament on Wednesday. “First there is an upper limit, then it will be completely abolished,” said Hafenecker. And Belakowitsch referred, among other things, to the possibility of a blackout: “Then everything will be set”, should there be no more cash.

Strict rejection came from the FPÖ for the NEOS’ desired departure from the principle of unanimity in the EU on foreign and security policy issues. NEOS boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger previously said at a press conference that her party wanted to show in the current Europe hour on Wednesday how Austria could contribute to Europe becoming capable of making decisions and being able to defend itself. Steps towards the United States of Europe, including a European army, are required.

At the moment, the government course is not clear, Meinl-Reisinger complained. The ÖVP is being driven by the FPÖ like a rabbit in front of a snake. The Liberals would try to take Austria out of the EU without saying so openly. “But they ignite.”

At the same time, one has to ask oneself who Austria’s friends in Europe are, according to the NEOS boss – countries like Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Benelux countries, Finland and Slovenia, who want to expand majority decisions or countries like Hungary or Serbia, Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) last met with their heads of state and government.

In addition, the NEOS continue to insist on the cancellation of the capital gains tax on the first 1,000 euros in income from savings books and accounts, according to business spokesman Gerald Loacker. At the same time, they call for an exemption from the securities capital gains tax on price gains if a holding period of at least one year has been observed. Anyone who buys securities for private pension provision, for example, should not have to pay taxes again.
