Frightened Fallow Deer Charges Rokycany Police Before Escaping to Forest

Stag Charges Rokycany Patrol

Municipal police officers in Rokycany faced an unexpected threat when a fallow deer stag charged them. The encounter unfolded as officers attempted to assess an animal rescue on an enclosed property along Nad Kalvárií Street, following reports from local residents about a trapped creature.

Officers arrived to evaluate the situation and determine how to safely assist the animal. Instead, the stag had other ideas.

They approached the fence behind which the stag was located, wanted to document the whole situation, and figure out how best to help it. But it apparently had a plan of its own, Petr Wohlmuth, commander of the Rokycany municipal police, told Novinky.

Sudden Breach and Escape

Without warning, the stag broke into a direct run toward the patrol. Officers had to react quickly and jump aside to avoid being hit by the animal. The deer then managed to find a way out, escaping into the forested terrain on Kalvárie and slipping out of sight.

Urban Pursuit Through Rokycany

Roughly an hour and a half later, the wildlife encounter escalated into a broader urban pursuit. The emergency dispatch center logged six separate calls reporting a free-roaming deer moving through Na Pátku and Soukenická streets. Authorities quickly confirmed it was the same stag.

A motorized patrol unit deployed to guide the antlered animal safely out of the municipal area. Officers cornered the stag in Dvořákova Street. They escorted it through active traffic, using the vehicle’s warning lights and sirens to direct the animal toward the Klabava River.

It managed to drive the stag into Dvořákova street and subsequently accompany it, during traffic, using a warning sound and light device, all the way to the Klabava river, Wohlmuth stated.

Back to the Wild

The urban environment quickly lost its appeal once the patrol reached the riverbank. The stag turned along the watercourse, headed back into the forested terrain of Kalvárie, and vanished into the open countryside.

Wohlmuth noted that this marked the first time the specific animal had ventured into the town. Authorities attributed the unusual urban excursion to the seasonal mating period.

But the rut is underway, the animals are wild and a bit confused, Wohlmuth said.
