From “Hogwarts Legacy” to “Assassin’s Creed”, what are the big games available on the Switch?

2023-11-12 07:02:10

In March 2017, Nintendo revolutionized the video game industry with the Switch: a hybrid console, which can be used in portable mode or connected to a television screen. More importantly, this machine was able to rely on very big titles from Nintendo studios from its launch, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe et Super Mario Odyssey (both published in the weeks or months following the release of the Switch).

Other very colorful works, focusing above all on ultra-simplistic handling and immediate gaming pleasure, then saw the light of day: Mario Golf: Super Rush, Just Dance, Super Mario Party et Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, to recite nobody else but them. Despite the many qualities that these titles still demonstrate, these releases have pushed a certain number of players to qualify the Switch as too family-friendly, not made for gamers, or even exclusively dedicated to children. Big mistake.

Indeed, Big N’s latest machine has many other things to offer. If Mario, Kirby and others do not meet your expectations and your selection criteria, we are absolutely certain that you will be able to find what you are looking for in the Switch’s immense game library.

Thanks to current technologies, the benefits of optimization or even the use of cloud gaming, many very big budget (or AAA) games have been entitled to their own port to the console. So let’s try to brush aside preconceptions by offering you a decent selection of the most important AAAs currently playable on Switch, and a preview of what awaits us in the weeks to come.

1 Doom Eternal

After a very good first reboot episode that saw the light of day in 2016, the month of March 2020 was marked by the arrival of its sequel on PC and home consoles initially, then on Switch a few months later. Very quickly, this episode rose to the rank of a real gem of fast-FPS, with gameplay mastered at your fingertips, handling with perfectly managed difficulty and, above all, a graphic and sound atmosphere close to the perfection.

From the beginning to the end of the adventure, we experience the game as a release on a large scale, without wandering towards the absurd, with also a gripping multiplayer component and bringing an additional character to the game. Despite logical technical concessions to the given the characteristics of the machine, the carrying of Doom Eternal on Switch remains a very good title that should be on your to-do list.

2 The Witcher 3

Without doubt the most well-known and recognized episode of the saga inspired by the work of Andrzej Sapkowski. With this title, the CD Projekt RED studio has surpassed itself, pushing the limits of storytelling for an open world game, with striking quests, endearing characters and stunning production. We immediately feel the immensity of the work carried out by the developers and this desire to offer the best of the adventures of the witcher Geralt of Rivia.

Here again, the port is not technically perfect, but everything remains generally fluid and above all allows players to dive into this immense immersive universe in a nomadic format. By opting for the Complete Edition, you will benefit from sumptuous extensions Hearts of Stone et Blood and Winein addition to the main adventure, for more than a hundred hours of gameplay.

3 Alien Isolation

Many adaptations of cinematographic sagas have seen the light of day in video games. Not all of them were remarkable, but fortunately this is not the case forAlien Isolation. The universe is wonderfully well transcribed, the tension is palpable from one end of the plot to the other and this feeling of helplessness fits perfectly with the original work, with a clever mix of action and infiltration, sprinkled with an exquisite dimension of horror.

It’s a pure treat for all survival horror fans. Thanks to the real tour de force achieved by the teams at The Creative Assembly, the game is perfectly playable and adapted to the nomadic format, and even has the luxury of integrating all the additional content published after the initial release, as well as the VO dubbing .

4 Assassin’s Creed

It is impossible to name a particular opus, because many of them are already available on the Nintendo console. So, you are free to turn to Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection or Assassin’s Creed: Anniversary Edition Mega Bundlebringing together all of the previously mentioned software.

You will dive into epic adventures, each offering a different vision of the world of Assassins, but with a similar objective: to eliminate your targets while trying to remain as discreet as possible and thus bring honor to your Brotherhood.

From a technical point of view, all of these games are perfectly playable on Big N’s latest console, and some even have a graphic aspect reworked for the occasion. Whatever the opus you choose, you will be in good conditions to discover or rediscover it.

5 Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

When it was released in August 2017, this title developed by Ninja Theory was perceived as a real UFO, particularly regarding its sound dimension and the themes covered during the adventure. Without telling you too much, the game continually seeks to push you to your limits and think differently from your usual ways.

The direction and direction also benefited from great care and the plot was admirably highlighted by the excellent performance of Melina Juergens in the skin of Senua. Good news: the magic works just as well on Switch, allowing the title to maintain this intense immersion and this desire to immerse the player in a universe that will shake them. Obviously, the graphic aspect is not the most charming, but that will in no way affect your appreciation of the journey.

It’s always a pleasure to be able to tackle a true video game monument wherever you want. The episode Skyrim is undoubtedly the best known and most appreciated of the entire saga The Elder Scrolls, And it’s not nothing. This is undoubtedly explained by an unfailing lifespan, a very appreciable soundtrack, perfect gameplay and a gripping storyline depicting a real evolution of the hero, the characters who surround him and the world in which he evolves.

When the port to Switch was announced, the community was understandably afraid of facing a new concentration of bugs from Bethesda, but it is clear that the result is quite astonishing for a title of such scope: a universe still as pleasant, a fluid and visually satisfying expedition, gameplay options specific to the Switch and above all the soul of the game still present.

7 Diablo III: Eternal Collection

The greatest saga of hack and slash at hand. The qualities of such a title no longer need to be demonstrated: we know full well that all fans of the genre (or almost all) appreciated this title, whether thanks to its plot punctuated by a worked scenario and some emotional phases, its absolutely sumptuous soundtrack or its gameplay as rich as it is natural to learn.

Add to that high-end graphics for the time and above all a completely satisfactory lifespan that has been greatly extended since then, and you end up with a work that counted for the industry. We can also congratulate the developers for the quality of the Switch port, as the gameplay seems perfectly adapted to the Joycon and the technical aspect (notably the fluidity) is there.

As is often the case, we also take advantage of all the content published in the game, for hours and hours of fun. Besides, if Diablo III: Eternal Collection gave birth to your love for the saga, you are free to try your hand at porting Diablo II: Resurrected.

8 Dragon Ball FighterZ

With this title, the studio Arc System Works managed to offer an excellent adaptation of the manga and it was clearly no easy feat. In addition to the sets and artistic direction which pay a vibrant tribute to the work of Akira Toriyamawe must admire all the care taken in the character animations and the variety of gameplay which gives all its dynamism and accessibility to the title, while obviously including many references for fans.

As for the port to Nintendo Switch, the result is good: despite some graphical concessions related to certain environments and visual effects, the final formula works and offers appreciable fluidity while maintaining a decent resolution.

9 Red Dead Redemption

One of Rockstar Games’ greatest classics. When it was released in 2010, this title propelled the franchise into another dimension after a less qualitative first episode. Although it is certainly the best-known opus, it does not necessarily constitute the start of the license, Red Dead Revolver having emerged in 2004.

At any rate, Red Dead Redemption brings together all the know-how of the American firm to offer an absolutely remarkable journey that is mastered from start to finish. Only a few months ago, Rockstar announced the arrival of the game on Switch, and what a surprise we were when we discovered how carefully this port had been made! The graphics are quite impressive, the narration and the scenario are still pleasant to follow, and the handling is absolutely impeccable.

10 And after?

Whether it is the classic version, the Light model or its evolution equipped with an OLED screen, the Switch continues to sell in pallets and the developers intend to continue to exploit the vein. Thus, other ports of AAA games are in the works and will very soon be playable in portable format.

For example, Hogwarts Legacy arrives this November 14 on the console and promises to let us experience the magical adventures of the world of Harry Potter in the palm of our hand. With this software, Avalanche Software has demonstrated true mastery in terms of universe adaptation. When you know the fans’ love for this work, it was clearly not an easy goal to achieve.

Everything is brilliantly designed to immerse the player in the world of the most famous wizard, although the game takes place almost 800 years before the adventures told in the books and films. Artistic direction to die for, choice system, lifespan, management of magic and gameplay… It’s a real joy to walk the corridors of Hogwarts.

In view of the first visuals published by Nintendo, the graphic aspect seems below the PlayStation and Xbox One versions, but this should not prevent the magic from operating if the rest is mastered and if the adventure is experienced with as much enthusiasm as ever. pleasure.

With Batman Arkham Asylum in 2009, then the episodes Arkham City et Arkham Knight, Rocksteady has simply redefined the basics of superhero video games. So much so that many have been inspired by it ever since – isn’t it? Marvel’s Spider-Man ?

With Batman Arkham Trilogy, the feeling of truly embodying the Dark Knight has never been so palpable, especially since the bestiary of enemies is full: Joker, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, the Scarecrow… Everyone is there for this iconic trilogy. We hope to be able to regain all this mastery by launching the Switch port of these three games from December 1st.
