Genoa CFC chief executive Andrés Blázquez has expressed optimism for a new era for the Serie A club following a legal resolution regarding its ownership and relationship with A-Cap, allowing majority owner Dan Șucu to focus on a football-driven strategy.
Fantasy & Market Impact
- Valuation Rebound: The removal of ownership friction clears the balance sheet for future January and summer window liquidity.
- Scouting Autonomy: Recruitment departments can once again target high-upside market profiles without boardroom interference.
- Squad Stability: Eliminating off-pitch litigation removes lingering institutional uncertainty that previously impacted player acquisitions.
Litigation Closure Ends Eighteen Months of Uncertainty
The turning point for the Serie A side arrived when a Genoa court rejected A-Cap’s challenge to the club’s recapitalisation for the third time on June 23. This verdict brought a definitive close to 18 months of intensive legal battles that cost the club millions of euros in legal fees.

While A-Cap retains a minority stake of approximately 22 percent, Blázquez confirmed they hold zero involvement in the governance of the club. Dan Șucu has served as majority owner since December 2024, stepping in when the business was near bankruptcy. Blázquez noted that the legal friction had severely complicated normal dealings with financial institutions and external stakeholders.
Missed Market Opportunities Under Previous Oversight
The protracted dispute carried heavy sporting costs alongside financial drains. According to Blázquez, the previous dynamic prevented the club from executing high-value targets, including missing out on a €7 million deal for Djed Spence and a free-agent approach for goalkeeper David de Gea.
Blázquez recounted that A-Cap dismissed the veteran goalkeeper outright by calling him an old-style option. He additionally revealed that Mason Greenwood had been offered to the club at a juncture when his market valuation possessed significant growth potential.
Internal estimates suggest the club may have forfeited between €70 million and €80 million in player trading value because non-football stakeholders influenced core sporting operations. Blázquez maintained that those specific situations would have resolved entirely differently had Șucu held control during those windows.
Financial Stabilization and Future Strategy
With the legal framework now completely untangled, executive leadership aims to repair damaged relationships with banking partners and attract fresh commercial investments. The immediate priority centers on strengthening the balance sheet and ensuring uninterrupted funding goes directly into first-team operations.
Genoa now prepares for upcoming league fixtures operating under a singular vision, prioritizing athletic performance over administrative distraction as the club enters a stable commercial phase.
