George RR Martin announces a new spin-off novel!

While the literary saga has still not drawn its conclusion on paper, the author of Game of Thrones has just formalized the release of a new spin-off novel.

Almost two years after its conclusion on the small screen, the saga Game of Thrones continues to build on his legacy. While several projects are in preparation on HBO, it was the author George RR Martin who took the fans by surprise, announcing on his official blog the release of a new spin-off bookbaptized Game of Thrones : The Rise of the Dragon. Centered on the Targaryen dynasty, this new adventure should be intimately linked to the prequel House of the Dragoncurrently in production at HBO and whose filming has just ended.

The Targaryens still in the spotlight

Compared to the prequel Fire and Bloodalready published in 2019 in France, The Rise of the Dragon should stand out as a reference book, promises George RR Martin. While the first Targaryen spin-off focused on Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros until the fall of his reign after the Dance of the Dragons, this new installment will adopt “a more encyclopedic style similar to The World of Ice and Fire”while covering the same historical period.

To help himself in this new project, the successful author has also called on two regulars of the genre, Elio M. García, Jr. and Linda Antonsson who have already collaborated on the volume. The World of Ice and Fire. See you in October to discover the result in English, then probably a few months later for a French translation.

In the meantime, we will only have to wait a few months before discovering Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon. The British actor will play opposite Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) and Emma D’Arcy (Hanna) in House of the Dragon, which is expected to be released this summer on HBO Max, and on OCS in France. Behind the camera, fans will also be able to find two regulars of Game of Thrones : Miguel Sapochnik to direct, and Ryan J.Condal to screenplay.
