Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz that Germany will ensure that its weapons are not used by Ukraine for strikes against the Russian Federation. According to Mr. Peskov, Germany has no way to monitor this, and Ukraine is already using weapons supplied from Germany to strike at Russian territory.
“The weapons supplied by Germany to the Kyiv regime are already firing at Russian territory, because the Donbass are Russian regions. Weapons are firing at the territory of Russia, and every day the direct and indirect involvement of the FRG in this conflict is increasing, ”the press secretary emphasized.
On May 1, Mr. Scholz announced that he would avoid unilateral steps in subsequent arms deliveries to Ukraine. “It also includes the fact that it is very important for us that the weapons that we supply and with which Ukraine can defend itself are not used to attack Russian territory,” the chancellor said at the time.
In March, Germany donated 18 modern Leopard 2A6s and 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, as well as other military aid packages, to Ukraine. In addition, Germany allowed other countries to transfer Leopard tanks to Ukraine. On April 28, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that in mid-2023, Germany would begin transferring an additional 80 Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine.
