GISMETEO: Hayabusa-2 probe found a drop of water on a space asteroid – Science and space

The Japanese space probe “Hayabusa-2” on the asteroid Ryugu found a drop of water among grains of cosmic dust.

The official report will be published in the near future. The representative of the team from the Land of the Rising Sun, planetary scientist T. Nakamura said that this drop contains salt and organic substances. Perhaps there is a connection with the origin of organics or oceans on Earth.

Nakamura’s group includes over a hundred scientists from various countries. The Hayabusa-2 probe that made the discovery was launched eight years ago. He returned to our planet only in two thousand and twenty.

Prior to this, researchers found traces of water on the Earth’s satellite. The methods that existed before were not capable of securing its extraction during missions to the Moon. As a result, scientists used quantum cascade lasers that generate photons with each electron transition.
