Christmas elves mysteriously end up in front gardens in the Welsh region of Broughton.

The police suspect a dark motive behind it.

Thieves are supposed to place them to see if anyone is home.

The Broughton region of Wales is currently managed by mysterious incidents haunted. Residents have increasingly reported finding spooky Christmas elves in their gardens. “We are aware that people in the Broughton area have placed Christmas elves in front yards of homes,” a police spokesman told the Daily Mail. The police warn that there could be a criminal motive behind it.

Welsh police fear it is a ruse by would-be burglars. These would place the elves in the gardens and wait to be collected or not. If this is not the case, the burglars see this as a sign that nobody is currently at home. Consequently, the house stands empty and is an easy target for thieves.

The police recommend these tips

Police are advising residents to be vigilant and secure their homes. She has shared a few tips for this: Posts about the holidays should only be shared with friends on social media and should not be publicly visible. In the event of a longer absence, the lights in the house should be left on to make it appear occupied. Likewise, no home deliveries should be made in this case, so that they are not stuck in front of the door. The police also recommend instructing the neighbors to park in the driveway and keep an eye on the house.

Thieves are said to have been working with symbols for years

The tactic with the Christmas elves already has well-known predecessors. “Secret” signs have been a popular practice among thieves for years. Victims of thieves have reported in the past that they found suspicious signs in front of their house just before the theft. “We found a suspicious sign on the tree in front of our house, I don’t know if they used it to mark our house,” said a man whose three cars were stolen shortly afterwards.

In 2013, Devon and Cornwall Police released an image showing suspicious signs. An X is supposed to stand for a good goal, while a circled X is a sign that there is nothing worth stealing in said house. A flower-like shape with five circles means wealthy and a D stands for too risky. However, police later found that the signs were actually put up by companies to indicate planned work.

The police then gave the all-clear: “There is no actual evidence linking these symbols to anything other than completely harmless and easily explainable activities.” For example, the five circles show how many cables are in a cable duct.
