God of War Laufey PlayStation 5 Release Date Pushed to May 2027
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have postponed the PlayStation 5 release of God of War Laufey from February 16, 2027, to May 2027. The action-adventure spin-off, centered on Kratos’s late wife Faye, needs three additional months of development time for final polish before hitting store shelves as both a digital download and a physical disc. Santa Monica Studio announced that the game will be released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive on May 20, 2027. Unveiled on June 2, 2026, during a State of Play broadcast, the new installment in the God of War franchise places Kratos’s wife and Atreus’s mother at the center of a journey through the afterlife of the gods.
Deborah-Ann Woll Returns as Faye in Everywhen
Deborah-Ann Woll reprises her role as Faye from God of War Ragnarök, leading a cast that introduces Jack Quaid as Frank, an eccentric cosmic cube accompanying her journey, and Perlina Luo as the voice of Ru, a guardian connected to the protagonist’s sword. Christopher Judge returns as Kratos, though Santa Monica Studio has not yet detailed the exact scope of the Spartan warrior’s presence in the narrative. Faye’s quest takes place in Everywhen, the realm of the gods’ afterlife, where she encounters non-Norse figures including Sekhmet, the lion-headed Egyptian goddess, and Vegche, a guardian deity tied to Tibetan Buddhism.
Faye Wields Magic Sword in Fast Combat
Faye utilizes a magic sword for fast, multidimensional combat relying on momentum, combos, and soul-based magic that temporarily strips enemies of their abilities to turn their powers against them. Cory Barlog serves as creative lead alongside director Ariel Lawrence, emphasizing Faye’s status as an Aesir-resistant rebel leader and Guardian of the Jötunn. PlayStation recommends completing the previous two Norse titles to fully grasp the interconnected lore, while a separate remake of the original Greek trilogy is also in early development with returning voice actor T.C. Carson.
