Goodbye to Vivo: Tata Group is now the main sponsor of the IPL

Mumbai: The Tata Group will be the main sponsor of this year’s IPL, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has said. This was approved at the IPL Governing Council meeting held today. With this, the tournament will be known as the ‘Tata IPL’ for the coming season.

In 2018, Vivo became the main sponsor of the IPL for Rs 440 crore. Vivo sponsorship was frozen for one year in 2020 due to India-China diplomatic issues. The sponsors of the IPL were Dream 11 this season. Tata Motors will be the main sponsors of the IPL for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has announced the date of the IPL mega star auction. The move is scheduled for February 7 and 8. The venue of the auction will be Bangalore. The BCCI has started preparations for this. The BCCI has decided to hold a mega auction in India if the Kovid scandal does not become more complicated.

There were reports that the auction would be held in the UAE. But close circles with the BCCI have dismissed it. Ten teams will take part in the mega star auction this year. The new teams are the Lucknow franchise owned by Sanjeev Goenka and the Ahmedabad franchise of CVC Capital.
