This week, the government confirmed plans to build two new prisons, one in Bourg-Léopold (Limburg), the other in Vresse-sur-Semois (Namur). New constructions “intended to reduce prison overcrowding by 60%. These projects provide for the reception of 624 additional inmates while there is currently a shortage of some 1,100 places,” commented the spokesperson for Mathieu Michel, Secretary of State in charge of the Buildings Authority.
