Managua: Government violence against the Catholic Church in Nicaragua continues. The dictatorial regime of Daniel Ortega, which has routinely persecuted Christians, has ordered the blocking of the bank accounts of various dioceses and parishes in the country. Human rights defenders and clerics strongly condemned the move.
The Archbishop of Managua, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, revealed that the accounts have not been verified since the night of May 25 and that they are looking at how to resolve the situation. Former Nicaraguan presidential candidate and president of the Libertad Foundation, Felix Maradiaga, also confirmed the freezing of the accounts.
