  • Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow is on trial for a skiing accident seven years ago.

  • The plaintiff’s attorney presented her as a “dangerous” and “reckless” skier.

  • Paltrow’s attorney Steven Owens dismissed the allegations as “total bullshit” (in German nonsense).

“Ruthless” and “wealthy and decadent” is how lawyer Lawrence Buhler described Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow in a court in Park City, Utah. Sanderson’s client, now 76-year-old retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, is suing Paltrow over a hit-and-run skiing accident on February 26, 2016. Sanderson alleges that the actress crashed into her in Deer Valley. As a result, he suffered a brain injury and four broken ribs. But instead of taking care of him, Paltrow drove on.

“Distracted skiers cause accidents. The defendant knew that it was dangerous to look up the mountain and to the side while driving down the slope,” said attorney Buhler in his opening speech on Tuesday. “She knew skiing was reckless that way,” he told the jury.

Paltrow was traveling with her children

On the day of the accident, the 50-year-old and her two children, her future husband Brad Falchuk, and her future husband Brad Falchuk rushed down a beginner’s slope uncontrollably when she hit his client from behind. Previously, she spent “thousands of dollars a day” on several ski instructors for her children, which allowed the family to “skip the lines,” the plaintiffs’ attorney continued.

Paltrow fell on top of Sanderson in the crash, Buhler said in court. After that, she acted “feeling” and “escaped,” while one of the ski instructors asked the injured person’s companion if he had noticed “that your buddy just put Gwyneth Paltrow out of action,” said the lawyer. Sanderson was briefly unconscious after the accident. The man first had to be cared for by first responders on the slopes of the posh Deer Valley resort. He was then taken to a hospital in Park City.

«total bullshit»

Paltrow’s attorneys blame the plaintiff for the clash. At the beginning of the hearing, they also portrayed their client as a reserved skier who was surprised that she had been run over by a skier coming from above. The allegations of the 76-year-old are “total bullshit” (in German nonsense).

Both parties described the version of the other side as implausible. Paltrow’s attorney, Steve Owens, said the plaintiff was talking complete nonsense. “His memory of the case has improved over the years. That’s not how memory works,” Owens said.

Both Paltrow and the plaintiff were present in court for the start of the trial on Tuesday. Paltrow hid her face from reporters and photographers with a blue folder as she entered and exited the courtroom.

Attorney Owens announced that Paltrow’s husband Brad Falchuk, along with their daughter Apple, 18, and son Moses, 16, will testify at the trial. The process is expected to take more than a week.
