Gypsy moth destroys forests in four districts of the Novosibirsk region June 2022 | NHS

The gypsy moth is a pest that damages up to 300 plant species. Among them are almost all hardwoods, some conifers, many types of shrubs. This is a typical forest pest, but also loves horticultural crops, especially the apple tree. During the period of mass reproduction, it is able to destroy leaves, and with them lead to the death of trees on thousands of hectares.

An NHS reader complained that the larvae had damaged forests in the Krasnoozersk region as well. He sent a video to the editor of what the pest had done.

How do you like these landscapes? And it’s not just in our area. It would be interesting to hear the comments of forestry specialists,” the reader noted. “This has been happening for several years now. And every year the scale is getting stronger. As far as I know, if a tree suffers like this for 2-3 years, then it dies. Well, there will be a lot of firewood. There was already a dust storm for the May holidays.
