(Archyde.com, Gaza, 18th) The Palestinian armed group “Hamas” announced today that it has decided to postpone the second round of hostage releases scheduled for today until Israel complies with its commitment to allow aid trucks to enter the northern Gaza corridor.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said the hostage release plan would be delayed if Israel did not comply with the conditions of the agreement to release Palestinian prisoners.
In response, an Israeli military spokesman told French BFM television station that Israel fully respects the truce agreement. Earlier, the spokesman said that 13 Israeli hostages and 39 Palestinian hostages were expected to be released in the second round.
Osama Hamdan, one of the leaders of Hamas in Lebanon, told Lebanese media that the reason for suspending the release of hostages was Israel’s violation of “the truce agreement related to aid (into Gaza), in addition to shooting incidents and continuous Rising death toll. Some of these (violations) happened yesterday and are happening again today.”
According to the truce agreement previously reached between Israel and Hamas, a total of 50 Israeli hostages and 150 Palestinian prisoners will be released within four days.
Hamas militants raided Israel on October 7 and took about 240 hostages. Israel and Kazakhstan began a truce yesterday. Hamas released 24 hostages, including Israeli women and children and Thai farm workers, while Israel released 39 Palestinian women and children held in Israeli prisons.
Today’s delay came hours after Egypt, which was taking control of the Rafah Border Crossing into southern Gaza, said it had received “positive signals” from all parties about a possible extension of the truce. Central News Agency (translation)
