HC Ajoie secured a vital 4-2 victory against Rapperswil in the National League on November 1, 2026, snapping a three-game losing skid just ahead of the international break. The win lifts Ville Peltonen’s side to ninth place in the standings, moving them within striking distance of the top six.
Fantasy & Market Impact
- Power-Play Stock Up: Captain Anttoni Honka and Finnish forward Kristian Tanus solidified their status as primary offensive catalysts during special teams sequences.
Special Teams Turn the Tide in Rapperswil
Entering the final frame deadlocked at 2-2, the fixture was decided strictly through discipline and execution on special teams. Both sides had traded blows through the opening forty minutes, resulting in an even scoreline and identical penalty metrics. But the dynamic shifted dramatically when Rapperswil ran into severe penalty trouble, conceding three minor infractions alongside a major penalty and a game misconduct.
With a decisive 5-on-3 advantage at the 50-minute mark, captain Anttoni Honka delivered the go-ahead strike. Kristian Tanus then sealed the contest into an empty net, capping off a stellar night where he contributed a goal and three primary assists. The performance underscored the enduring commitment of the two Finnish players, both slated to depart the club at the conclusion of the season.
“Our goal was to give everything on the ice, without worrying about the result. I think we deserved this victory.”
Kristian Tanus remarked following the final whistle, reflecting the squad’s collective urgency.
Weighing the Future Before the International Break
The timing of the fixture could not be more advantageous for the Jura outfit. Operating under head coach Ville Peltonen, the team capitalizes on the November international break to digest tactical adjustments and rest weary legs after 19 rigorous rounds. Holding a six-to-seven-point buffer over the league’s basement dwellers while sitting just three points back of the top six transforms the emotional landscape of the locker room.
Yet, questions loom regarding squad composition for the long term, particularly given the impending departure of core offensive weapons like Tanus. Addressing his choice not to extend his tenure in the region, Tanus kept his remarks pragmatic during his post-match interview with RFJ.
“In life, you sometimes have to make difficult decisions. I’m having a lot of fun this year. I love being here and I’m making the most of it.”
Tanus noted, confirming his immediate focus remains squarely on delivering results for Ajoie.
