The Ministry of Health and Population has warned citizens not to eat or catch lark fish, because it is a poisonous fish that leads to death, and its poison does not have a cure, and it is known as the deadliest fish in the world.
In an awareness video, the Ministry of Health said that this fish is known as the ratfish, the souffle fish, or the rabbit fish, which is widespread in the markets, and leads to death.

The Ministry of Health indicated that the ratfish is distinguished by its gray skin, and it is known as the deadliest fish in the world – and was named stingers because of its sharp, pointed teeth, and is known as “rabbit or sophistication” because it swells when it feels frightened, and the tick contains poisonous glands under the skin, viscera, liver and meat. and marrow.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the poison in the fish is “tetrodotoxin” and has no cure so far. The shark is found in the Red Sea and oceans and reached the Mediterranean waters through the Suez Canal
She added that the ratfish lives at the bottom of the sea, and feeds on fish waste and types of toxic algae, stressing that when eating the ratfish, symptoms of poisoning begin to appear within 20 minutes to an hour.
Symptoms may be delayed up to two days, and its poison may cause death within 6 to 8 hours
Symptoms of poisoning include:
1- Abdominal pain
2- Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
3- Weakness and paralysis of muscles
4- Low blood pressure
5- Decreased heart rate
6- Body numbness
7- Shortness of breath
8- You may reach paralysis or coma
It is worth noting that the Port Said Governorate Health Affairs Directorate announced yesterday that a whole family of 5 people had been poisoned after eating a meal of poisonous rabbit fish.
And she warned citizens against eating rabbit fish because it poses a severe health risk, up to food poisoning and death.
It also warned some traders who skinned the fish and sold it in the form of fillets to hide its features, so that citizens would not be able to know the type of fish, as they are under criminal responsibility that exposes them to imprisonment.
