A 38-year-old woman, named Barbora Hájková, ignored a bump on the side of her head for a long time. It was actually a rare skin cancer.
While some worry about small changes in their bodies, others don’t really pay attention. This is particularly the case of Barbora Hájková who, for a long time, ignored a bump she had on the side of her head, despite the concerns of her companion.
Finally, by dint of perseverance, he managed to make her listen to reason and bring her to a health professional. But when the ax fell, it was a shock. The 38-year-old mother was actually diagnosed with a rare skin cancer called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. A cancer that can, at the very beginning of its existence, look like a pimple under the skin.
Except that in his case, the tumor was not at its beginnings, it was big and had spread. So she finally underwent emergency surgery, a procedure that changed her physical appearance to such an extent that her daughter did not recognize her. Concretely, the surgeons removed part of his infected skull. The operation therefore left a hole in his head. Initially devastated by her new reflection in the mirror, she quickly learned to accept her difference and now participates in cancer awareness campaigns.
“I did not imagine any horror scenario”
Now safe and sound, she says she is grateful to her companion because she would never have gone to consult without his stubbornness. “I must say that I was a little annoyed by the exams. I was convinced that I had nothing wrong and that I had at most a lump on my head. However, the ultrasound showed that this probably wasn’t that trivial, so I did a biopsy. At this point, I was getting a little anxious, but I wasn’t imagining any horror scenarios.”she explained to Sun while qualifying the expectation “uncomfortable”.
As she explains, this experience gave her patience, a new perspective on the world and on the values of life. “But above all, I’m grateful to be healthy and to be able to live my life that I don’t intend to waste”she concluded.
