Heraklion: Talent Friday at the age of 11 for the first Tennis Europe U12 tournament victory – ÖTV

With numerous great successes, the local U12 juniors in tennis in Austria have underlined the great future prospects in this age category this year. As of last week, another, new, red-white-red winner’s face appeared for the first time: Moritz Freitag. The talent from the STTV Future team won its first Tennis Europe U12 title last weekend in Heraklion on the southern Greek island of Crete – and that as a born in 2011 at the age of only eleven against the partly much older competition.

At the end of May in Koper (Slovenia), Freitag recorded the first semifinals at a European youth ranking tournament. He now knew how to top that in Heraklion: The young Styrian reached the quarterfinals in singles and the semifinals in doubles at the first stop at the Nana Golden Beach Tennis Club, accompanied by his two brothers Filip (currently number 1855 in the ITF youth world rankings) and Paul and her dad Sascha. “Since Moritz’s school gave us the opportunity to play the second week as well, we stayed,” said father Sascha Freitag. And the son should actively use the opportunity presented to him.

Because at the second tournament in the Lyttos Beach SportsCenter, Freitag not only repeated the semi-finals in doubles, but this time even took the crown in singles. After two clear victories and a wo success in the group phase, the TSV Hartberg-Tennis player beat the German Luis Bessler 6:1, 6:1 in the quarterfinals and the Italian Riccardo Pepe in the semifinals 6:2, 6:3 off – to make the older Kazakh Zhantore Sanzharuly not look much better in the final with 6: 1, 6: 2. “He really convinced,” said Papa Sascha happily after this premiere title – the first, but definitely not the last coup.
